Before test day: prepare the roster
Install AFT Ready and prepare soldier records before you get to the test site. Check names, ages, genders, and the applicable scoring standard. Make sure the roster includes the people actually testing; a familiar name is not a substitute for checking the right record.
Multiple soldier records and group scoring require Pro. Complete any purchase or restore while connected to the internet. Then open the app and confirm access before heading into an area with poor reception. Charge the device and plan who will be responsible for recording results.
Use the Army’s current AFT guidance and your unit’s instructions for administering the test. This guide covers organizing results in the app; it does not replace event standards or grader responsibilities.
During the test: work event by event
- Start the session. Tap Start AFT, select the soldiers testing, and check the selected count before starting.
- Match every entry to a name. The group workflow organizes entries by event. Check the soldier’s row before entering deadlift weight, push-up repetitions, or a timed result.
- Keep raw inputs consistent. Use pounds for the deadlift and minutes:seconds for timed events. Confirm unclear handwritten times with the grader.
- Check completion before moving on. A missing result should prompt a check, not an assumed score. Reconcile the roster with the grader’s records.
- Use Resume AFT if interrupted. The app saves active-session progress locally. Resume the session and confirm the current event before continuing.
The calculation workflow works offline after installation. Soldier records remain on the device; they are not a shared cloud roster. Keep one device as the designated record while the session is underway, and avoid assuming another phone has the same changes.
After the test: review, save, and export
On Review & Save, inspect each soldier’s event points and total. A squad-wide list is useful for spotting omissions, but each person still needs an individual review. If a result looks out of place, check the raw entry and scoring profile before saving.
Choose Finalize & Save All when the records are ready. The saved tests appear in each soldier’s profile. Open a profile to review the history or choose Generate DA 705 for that soldier’s export. Our scorecard guide explains the PDF review and sharing steps.
Test-day closeout checklist
- The selected roster matches the soldiers tested.
- Every recorded result has been checked against the correct person and event.
- Unusual results and missing entries have been resolved with the responsible grader.
- The session has been finalized and records are visible in soldier histories.
- Scorecards have been reviewed and handed off through the unit’s required process.
Saving a test in AFT Ready does not upload it to an Army system. Keep the official recording and approval process separate from the app workflow. To review how event points become a total, read our worked AFT scoring example.
