Start with the right scoring standard

A raw result and a point score are different things. A deadlift is recorded in pounds; push-ups in repetitions; sprint-drag-carry, plank, and the two-mile run in minutes and seconds. Convert each result with the table for the soldier’s age and applicable standard before adding anything.

The AFT general standard uses age- and sex-based scoring. The combat standard uses sex-neutral, age-based scoring. For a complete five-event test, the general passing threshold is 300 total points; the combat threshold is 350. Each event must reach at least 60 points. Confirm which standard applies with your unit. Source: Army AFT guidance.

This example covers all five primary events. A permanent profile, an exempt event, or an alternate aerobic event needs its own applicable guidance; don’t use this example to decide those cases.

A worked five-event scoring example

Consider a 29-year-old male soldier using the general standard and the 27–31 age bracket. These raw results map to the points below in the Army’s published AFT scoring tables.

Example: male, age 29, general standard
EventRaw resultPoints
Three-repetition maximum deadlift220 lb75
Hand-release push-up26 reps70
Sprint-drag-carry1:5580
Plank2:0975
Two-mile run18:2370
Total370 / 500

The sum is 75 + 70 + 80 + 75 + 70 = 370. Every event meets the individual minimum and the total exceeds 300, so this example meets the general five-event scoring threshold. These raw thresholds are specific to this example’s profile.

Calculate and save the result in AFT Ready

  1. Add the soldier and check age, gender, and scoring standard.
  2. Choose Start AFT and select the soldier.
  3. Enter the raw event results. Use minutes and seconds for timed events: 1:55 means one minute, 55 seconds, not 1.55 minutes.
  4. Review each event’s points and the total before finalizing the test.
  5. Save the result to the soldier’s history so you can compare the next test with the same record.

Scoring works offline once the app is installed. Individual scoring is available for free. Pro adds multiple-soldier workflows and scorecard exports.
